Privacy-First AI: Protecting Individual Data Beyond Compliance

FootfallCam’s AI-driven solutions are designed from the ground up to prioritise privacy. Unlike conventional AI systems that collect and process raw personal data, we have implemented industry-leading measures to ensure that no personally identifiable information (PII) is ever stored, transferred, or processed beyond what is absolutely necessary for aggregate insights.

Privacy-First AI: Protecting Individual Data Beyond Compliance

Masked at the Chip Level

From the moment data is captured, our technology ensures that individuals remain completely anonymous. We have implemented hardware-level masking, meaning that all people detected are anonymised at the chip level before the data even leaves the sensor. This ensures that no raw images, facial recognition data, or personally identifiable features are stored or transmitted.

No Storage or External Transfer of PII

Unlike traditional systems that rely on cloud-based processing, FootfallCam devices do not store any personal data. The processing happens entirely on the device, ensuring that no individual details are transferred externally. This prevents the risk of data breaches and unauthorised access.

WiFi and BLE Data Anonymisation

FootfallCam uses WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signals to analyse foot traffic patterns. However, all such data is hashed and aggregated at the device level before deletion. This means that even transient device identifiers are never stored in a way that can be used to track individuals. Only high-level, aggregated statistics are retained to provide useful insights while maintaining privacy.

Beyond GDPR Compliance

While GDPR mandates stringent privacy measures, FootfallCam goes beyond these regulations by ensuring that data minimisation, anonymisation, and security are built into the very core of our technology. Our approach does not merely comply with regulations—it sets new benchmarks for privacy-first AI solutions.

Employee Privacy

Employee Privacy: Protecting the Rights of Workers

FootfallCam is committed to ensuring that its technology is not misused to infringe upon the rights of employees. We recognise that workplace surveillance can be a contentious issue, and we have taken deliberate measures to prevent our technology from being used to track staff movements or behaviour.

Employee Privacy: Protecting the Rights of Workers

No Employee Tracking

FootfallCam’s analytics solutions are designed to understand shopper behaviors and optimise retail environments. However, none of our tools can be used to track individual employees. Our system does not log where a staff member moves within a store, nor does it allow employers to monitor individual behaviours or productivity.

Segregated Data Models

To ensure that employee privacy is never compromised, we have built our AI models to distinguish between staff and customers without storing individualised data. This means that while our solutions can exclude staff movements from customer footfall analytics, they cannot be used to monitor employees in any way.

Ethical AI Use and Policy Enforcement

We actively discourage and prevent misuse of our technology for employee surveillance. Our terms of service explicitly prohibit any attempt to modify or repurpose FootfallCam solutions for workforce tracking. Any attempt to do so would be a violation of our ethical AI principles and could result in the termination of service agreements.

Privacy-Focused Design for All Stakeholders

Just as we prioritise consumer privacy, we extend the same protection to employees. By ensuring that our technology cannot be repurposed for employee surveillance, we uphold ethical standards that respect workplace rights and protect staff from unwarranted monitoring.

Business Data Security

Business Data Security: Protecting Retailers’ Competitive Edge

FootfallCam understands that business data is a valuable asset, and we are committed to ensuring that our customers retain full control over their proprietary information. Unlike data-driven companies that leverage customer data for their own AI models, FootfallCam ensures that each business retains ownership and control over its data.

Business Data Security: Protecting Retailers’ Competitive Edge

Your Data, Your Model, Your Server

We firmly believe that businesses should own and control their data without the risk of it being used to train third-party AI models. Our guiding principle is:

"Use your own data, in your own server, to train your own model for your own use."

This ensures that your business insights remain proprietary and are not exploited by FootfallCam or any other third party.

No Data Sharing with Third Parties

Unlike major tech platforms such as Google and Facebook, FootfallCam does not share or repurpose customer data for commercial gain. We do not use aggregated data for training our AI models or for any external research purposes. Your data remains exclusively yours.

Data Aggregation with Maximum Protection

While FootfallCam provides aggregated insights to retailers, we treat even aggregated data as confidential business intelligence. We implement strict security measures, including encryption and access controls, to prevent unauthorised access or data breaches. Our security framework ensures that aggregated data remains protected against potential exploitation.

Multiple Layers of Data Protection

To further enhance data security, FootfallCam employs:

  • End-to-End Encryption: All data transmitted between devices and servers is encrypted, ensuring secure communication.
  • On-Premise Deployment Options: Businesses can choose to deploy FootfallCam solutions on their own servers, eliminating external access concerns.
  • Strict Access Controls: Only authorised personnel within the business can access analytics, ensuring data confidentiality.

Commitment to Confidentiality

Even in an era where data is considered the new oil, FootfallCam does not engage in any form of data commoditisation. Our commitment is to provide cutting-edge AI solutions while maintaining the strictest confidentiality and data integrity standards.

Privacy is not an optional feature

Privacy is not an optional feature - it is a core principle of FootfallCam’s AI solutions. Our privacy-first approach ensures that individual identities remain protected, employee rights are upheld, and business data remains secure. By setting new industry standards in privacy-first AI, FootfallCam empowers businesses to leverage data-driven insights without compromising ethical and regulatory responsibilities.

Through proactive privacy measures, FootfallCam not only complies with global regulations but surpasses them, ensuring that our solutions remain transparent, secure, and trustworthy. This commitment is embedded in our technology, our policies, and our company culture. Privacy-first AI is not just a slogan - it is our fundamental promise to every customer, employee, and individual whose data we handle.
